Jesus is our parachute

There is a story of a young man who wanted to be a skydiver. Skydivers are people who get into aeroplane only to jump out of the plane when it has reached thousands of miles in the sky. To them the free fall is an interesting sport. To them this is fun as they are equipped with safety gadget, parachute which prevents them from falling to the ground at a very high speed.

So this young man decided to be a skydiver. He went to school and he graduated. Now he had his certificate. Now he can dive in the sky. He was excited. He went and purchased brand new diving equipment: a helmet, a goggle, a jacket, safety boot and a parachute.

Now the day of the great game came, he and his co-skydivers entered into the plane full of excitement. The plane took off from the ground and went higher and higher into the sky. They have traveled thousands of miles into the sky when the pilot made an announcement that its time to jump out of the plane. One after the other the skydivers jumped out of the plane. They were all enjoying the experience, it was fun. Especially this young man, he was enjoying the free fall.

But then something happened. When the time comes for this young man to spread his parachute for a safe landing, he made a very terrible discovery: he has forgotten to wear his parachute. He had his jacket, he had his helmet and he had his goggle but he has forgotten the most important thing.

Even if you have all safety equipments, if you jump out of an aeroplane without a parachute you will fall to the ground and break into pieces.  It doesn’t matter how many degrees you have, your certificates notwithstanding, if you jump out of a plane without a parachute you’ll crumble like an egg that falls from the seventh floor of a storey building.

Jesus is our parachute. If you don’t have Him with you your life is in danger. You may think your sinful lifestyle is fun, you may say you are enjoying your addictions, but I tell you the end of all sins is death.

Sin may be pleasurable for a time and it may be profitable for a season, but the end of it is death. 

My friend if you jump into eternity without Jesus in your life you will find yourself in a very serious trouble. I don’t even think the word trouble can best describe the kind of calamity that a person who dives into eternity without Jesus will find himself in. There is one thing that is more foolish than jumping from a plane without a parachute, it is jumping into eternity without Jesus. Now is the time of salvation, later may be too late.
